How can hyperpigmentation be treated with chemical peels?
We are one of the only few clinics in Calgary that specializes in hyperpigmentation treatment or Melasma. Hyperpigmentation is excessive pigmentation of the skin area either facial or intimate areas subsequent to acne, pregnancy, hormonal changes. It is more pronounced in ethnic skin than caucasian.
Meline has specific products for different skin types that makes it more effective. Since the hyperpigmentation is a long process and happens over many years similarly the cure is not one treatment for life. Treatment first begins with the assessment by Dr. Patel who will determine which products to use prior to the chemical peel.
It is recommended the skin is primed for the chemical peel by using the home products for a minimum of 4 weeks. Then in clinic a chemical peel is done. Although it sounds so harsh as the skin would peel off it generally happens slowly with minimal scaling.
Depending on the response either Microneedling with products or another chemical peel is done in clinic after another 4 weeks. It is suggested to use the home products in between and after peels. A final peel is done 6 months post all the treatments. This may be enough to keep the pigmentation down.
Diligent application of the sunscreen is the key to keep the treatment’s effect all the time. You may need a peel or products occasionally depending how your skin responds.
This is the way to go for a clean blemish free skin!
